Emojis are boring ╭∩╮(•̀_·́)╭∩╮

A heart here, a winking smiley there. Seen it a thousand times and admittedly just not cool anymore. But what should you write instead?

Or rather, what did people write to express emotions in text before the time of emojis? ASCII Emoticons is the answer, my friends!

If you don't know what ASCII code is, don't worry. I'll link you to an article about it. All you need to know is that it's a cool and retro-relevant alternative to the same old yellow faces, fruit and vegetable pictures. I've started using them again a lot because they not only express emotions in texts more individually, but they're also a kind of digital art from the past.

In short - ASCII emoticons are just so much cooler ⎚-⎚ ⋆꙳·❅*‧ ‧*❆ ₊⋆ ⎚-⎚

They stimulate the imagination because they are usually not decipherable at first glance. But once you've internalized them, it immediately 'clicks' in your mind and you interpret them automatically.

So, can you make sense of all the examples shown above? It's perfectly fine if your answer is 'no'. ASCII code is a fantastic form of expression and, in my opinion, a form of digital art that deserves to be preserved. Creating ASCII art yourself requires some practice and creativity. If you're interested in that, great!

In this post, I simply want to encourage you to use this beautiful old form of expression more in your everyday life. I'm sure your friends will be amazed if you don't use 😊 in your next Messenger message, but (˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶)

Have fun with ASCII emojis! ᕙ( •̀ ᗜ •́ )ᕗ
